The Greater Houston Partnership presented the 2025 Robert C. McNair Civic Leadership Award to the Love family at the organization’s Annual Meeting. The prestigious award honors individuals and families whose contributions have profoundly shaped the greater Houston community.
The Love family's story is one of vision, service, and generational dedication. The late Ben F. Love, a visionary leader, transformed Houston's financial landscape as the Chairman and CEO of Texas Commerce Bank. His leadership in the historic merger with Chemical Bank of New York in 1987 secured Houston's position as a key financial hub.
Prior to his business career, Ben served as a navigator during World War II, flying 25 combat missions and earning the Distinguished Flying Cross, exemplifying his bravery and devotion to causes greater than himself.
As a founding member and the first Chairman of the Greater Houston Partnership in 1989, Ben’s leadership united Houston’s business community under a shared vision. He understood Houston’s strength lies in its people, innovation, and collective ambition to build a brighter future.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ben's philanthropic efforts supported numerous cultural and educational institutions, leaving a lasting legacy.
“He was a true champion of collaboration, firmly believing that we achieve far more together than we ever could in competition,” said Liz Ross, award recipient and granddaughter. “Though not a native Houstonian, he embraced this city as his own, famously saying he ‘got here as soon as he could.’”
The Partnership also recognized the late Jeff B. Love, an accomplished leader in his own right. As Chairman and Senior Partner of the Houston Office of Locke Lord LLP, Jeff built a legacy of legal excellence and civic engagement. He held leadership roles with various organizations, including the Greater Houston Partnership and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. His global impact was recognized by King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, who inducted him into the Royal Order of the Seraphim.
“[Jeff] had a unique talent for lifting others up, helping them find their strengths, and connecting people in ways that brought out the best in them. His belief in the power of partnership was unparalleled,” Ross said.
The Love family's shared values of investing in opportunities, building connections, and fostering growth have left an indelible mark on our city. Their story is a testament to the enduring power of leadership and service, reflecting the very essence of Houston's spirit.
Established in 2020, the McNair Award is presented by the Greater Houston Partnership annually to business leaders and families who have made an outsized impact on our community — through civic and philanthropic leadership – honoring the lifelong legacy imparted by the award’s namesake, Bob McNair.
